What the NIE is and what it is for

The NIE is the personal identification number assigned to foreign citizens by the Spanish Administration. It is mandatory for virtually any transaction with economic or legal significance: buying property, opening a Spanish bank account, paying taxes, working, incorporating a company, or accepting an inheritance.

Where to apply

• In Spain, at designated immigration offices (Oficinas de Extranjería) or National Police stations, by prior appointment.
• From abroad, at the Spanish consular office corresponding to your country of legal residence.
• Through a duly authorized representative holding a notarized power of attorney, under specific circumstances.

How we do it

1. We analyze your situation and advise on the most suitable route (in-person, consular, or by representative).
2. We prepare the official form (EX-15), the justification of the reason for the application, and the administrative fee payment (Form 790, code 012).
3. We arrange the appointment and accompany or represent you, depending on the case.
4. We deliver the NIE certificate to you and advise you on the subsequent legal steps.

NIE and residency are not the same

A NIE is strictly an identification number: it does not grant a right of residence or work authorization in Spain. If you require a residence permit or an EU citizen registration certificate, we will guide you through the appropriate procedure.
